If you look back to a week or two ago, you will see my post on the what-have-we-done moments wherein I whine about all the work we have to do to get ready for carpet. Thankfully we can report that the carpet is IN and looks really really really nice. We are so pleased we walk around our house with smiles on our faces. Brian and I stood in the nursery last night for a few minutes just smiling like goons - pregnant goons. The painting is done, the carpet is in, and now I can't wait to buy a crib. But all this joy aside, we have agreed that we will not be re-carpeting any of the rooms in our house for quite some time. It was just too labor-intensive. There was all that moving of the heavy furniture. There was all the tear out. There was all the staple removal. The list goes on.
On my walks around town delivering things for the office I see some pretty interesting things. Today I saw something that brought a little perspective into my life.
It was a house. On a semi trailer. Coming down Main Street.
I stood completely amazed and in awe as I watched an entire house weave in between traffic lights, dodge parked cars, and creep slowly down the gawker-lined street. And then I knew that my little carpet project was pretty unimpressive compared to this spectacle. The amount of "work" we had to do was not much in light of what it must have taken to get this abode on a trailer. I can only imagine what the owners of this box on wheels must be going through.
I know I stressed about my carpet project, and I realize I, at times, made a mountain out of a molehill. But truth be told, we are so glad our project is finished...and didn't involve watching our house roll down the street.
