Adventures to the North

Friday morning hubby and I packed ourselves into our car and began our long journey to Minneapolis for my college roommate’s wedding. We estimated our trip would take approximately 5 hours, but left several hours worth of cushion for the just-in-case scenarios that I sincerely hope other people go over (ie: flat tires, getting lost, food stops, etc.). Our planning paid off when the trip took an additional 90 minutes thanks in part to the following:
  1. REALLY long lines at rest areas (out the door mind you) and no one moved aside for the obviously pregnant lady - the nerve!
  2. my craving ice cream at DQ wherein I was too full to eat anything more than a cheeseburger and fries
  3. stops at gas stations which will forever be known to us as "Ice Cream and Hot Dogs" because there was no "name" on the premises other than its advertisements for the aforementioned treats
  4. I pointed the appropriate exit while in downtown Minneapolis. After missing the exit due to "lack of notice", hubby carefully explained to me pointing was not sufficient direction. I don’t think this really made us any later, just took an alternate route.

We enjoyed our afternoon and evening at the wedding, seeing lots of old friends and catching up on some of the surface details of each other’s lives. We also heard the best wedding toast we have ever heard - or will ever hear. I don’t know this guy’s last name, but Matt ____________ is probably one of the funniest people to ever hold a microphone. I am forever in awe. We laughed. We cried. It really was the greatest wedding toast...bar none. I wish I could retype it all for you but all I really remember was laughing so hard it was difficult to maintain my balance.

After a delicious meal and a little more socializing we scurried into our travel clothes and hit the road...again. This time I successfully navigated (with no pointing) our way through Minneapolis with no missed exits. Funny how when I am asleep a 6.5 hour trip suddenly shrinks down to 5 hours. I blame my inhibited bladder.

Saturday called for sleeping in, long naps, and lounging on the sofa. Sunday was more relaxing except for praise team that evening. I was pretty nervous for this one and it went very well. At least the praise team part went well. I royally messed up on a solo and had to actually restart the song. But all is well that ended well. I’m not perfect and my friends seem to love me anyway.

This concludes our wedding travels for the year, as far as I know. And in some strange way, this Monday morning, getting back into the swing of things has been nice. Perhaps ordering new computers for the whole office this morning has put me in a more chipper mood.
