‘Tis the season

Its mid/late June and that means one thing to so many of us - time for people to get hitched! Brian’s sister is getting married this Saturday. I will be performing my usual role of candid photographer. I’d probably do that even if I wasn’t officially titled as such. I have this disease wherein I preserve every memorable moment in life with a photograph. One of my coworkers has a son getting married this weekend as well. She was in the middle of a dress crisis until a few minutes ago when it finally arrived at the store. Watching her makes me wonder what moms really go through when their children get married. And in a few weeks one of my college friends is getting married. I’m not just looking forward to that wedding - but also to seeing all my old girlfriends.

All of this just bring memories flooding back. Putting the hot blooded man in a three piece tux on a hot summer day. The way your cheeks hurt from smiling for countless pictures. Stepping into your wedding dress for the last time (because shortly hereafter it somehow shrinks and never fits again). Being busy with preparations all week long and then waiting for what seems like years to hear the bridal march. Parading around in a dress, knowing you are the center of attention no matter where you go or what you are doing. The sound of hundreds of guests rising from their pews to watch your hopefully stumble-free walk down the aisle. Watching the random uninvited fly buzz around the preacher’s head and rest on his glasses during the ceremony. Holding a bouquet of flowers that at first seems not-so-heavy, but by the end of the ceremony seems to weigh at least 15 pounds. Being just a little bit nervous, until you look into your hubby’s eyes and you see that he is 100% calm, cool and collected.

My only advice to brides is this - slow down and soak up every moment. The memories imprinted in your mind are a lot cooler than any picture.
