Reagan's first word

Reagan said her first word twice in a row today. And you will NEVER guess what it was. Most babies say things like "Momma" or "Dadda". Not my genius child. No way. We are light years beyond such developmental milestones, people! Light years. We were listening to some particularly inspiring music this morning - this is what we do when we are crabby - my daughter and I. So there we are jamming out, having a high old time. I'm changing her diaper because I am supermom. [Hold your applause.] So I change her diaper and despite this distraction, or perhaps because of it, she says loudly and quite clearly "Hallelujah!" I stopped and stared are her for a few moments and then she did it again. "Hallelujah!"

Now, I know what you are thinking - not possible. I know it sounds ridiculous cuz how many syllables does "hallelujah" have and it must be almost physically impossible for any child, even a brilliant one, to say something so completely complicated. But she did. And now writing all this down makes me realize how incredibly hilarious it was and how God must have just laughed himself silly when He heard it and watched my face.

Its NOT a fluke! Don't sit there and laugh at me because you think it was a fluke and I am being ridiculous. I see you all sitting there saying "Yeah right. Hilarious Jean. Her first word is more likely 'goo' or 'gah' or 'gee'. She didn't say 'hallelujah'. It was your imagination. Your kid is no more intelligent than all the other kids in the world." I beg to differ. Clearly our home is just oozing with incredible amounts of intelligence. Hubby and I have frequent conversations that would consternate most academically successful housemates. I really wish you people would stop laughing at me.

In all seriousness, she does hear the word "hallelujah" more often than most babies. It isn't exactly a word I slip into my day-to-day conversations or exasperations. But as I said, we listen to a lot of music in our house (and that does not mean we are frequently crabby) and a lot of my music has "hallelujah" in it. We send our thanks to Jeremy Camp who seems to utter this word repeatedly when he has run out of other words or when he has decided there is nothing left to say in his songs.

At any rate, I can't blame her. Had I been in her shoes (or footie pajamas) I would have praised God too for sending someone to change a diaper like that one.

WOW!! I believe you, but I'd love to hear it for myself! You need to get that on video somehow. Does your digital camera have a video option? I can't imagine Bennett saying a full word - let alone a 4 syllable one! go Jean! Maybe I should play music more often at our house...
AND... why are you not published yet?! You should have a book out now of funny stories - your writing conclusions etc. are just so entertaining. I'm encouraging/ pushing you to pursue your writing!!! You're fantastic! and so is Reagan!! :) This is the end of my love note to you. ~LK

Jean,
I also find it very interesting that Reagan's first word is a universal word. I know of only two words that mean the same thing in all languages. 'Amen" and "Hallelujah" ("Coke" and "McDonalds" may be weak exceptions) . It seems that the damage done in Genesis 11 at the tower of Babel (the confusion of languages) holds no power over praise of an almighty God and this is confirmed through the precious lips of your child. I really enjoy your blog, but this particular story really touches my heart. Well done to you and your godly husband for raising such a precious and valued member of God's Holy Family. - Uncle Tom
