Wanted: One Personal Assistant

As most of you know, I am a legal assistant in a small law office. On any given day, my work projects vary from making copies to meeting with clients to getting groceries to reminding my boss of his anniversary. In ways, I have to be more informed on his life than he is. Its tricky, but I am really good at it. Very few things fall through the cracks around here. You can bet when they do I am the first to point the finger elsewhere. Just kidding!! But seriously, there are days (weeks) that I deeply envy his ability to walk out of his office, throw something on my desk, and say "take care of this for me". From that point on he can basically forget about it. What must that be like? I have so many things I would like to just hand off to an assistant. Here are a few:

- grocery lists
- various necessary phone calls (not the fun ones, just the boring ones)
- my music and worship binders which need to be put back into some semblance of order
- menu planning

In all honesty, I really do enjoy organizing which is one reason I am really good at what I do. Let’s face it, to keep someone else organized you really have to love organizing. But lately I feel as if I have all these loose ends that are not getting tied up. What I would really love is some time just to get rid of some of my outstanding projects so I can ease my mind. What I would really love is to walk out of my office, throw a pile of stuff on someone else’s desk and say "take care of this for me". No, it isn’t going to happen. But I have found a sneaky/bizarre way around this.

I have this table that sits in the spare bedroom in the basement. It is in the farthest corner of the house. I rarely go in the room at all. But several times a week I send things to this table. Hubby will find an article I printed out or an invitation I need to RSVP to and he will ask me where it goes (cuz he wants stuff put away). I’ll say "put it on my table". Just like that the project is out of my hands and on my assistant’s task list. Granted, once a week I have to sit down there and actually be my own assistant, but in some small way this method has helped me feel better about the clutter of everyday chores.
