Its not a good day when the sky matches the cement. There is just very little inspiration to actually get oneself out of bed in the morning when it is as dark as it was when you went to sleep. I know people who get out of bed at 4 to go running. They are certifiably insane. The only time I have ever purposefully gotten up at 4:00 a.m. was to go to a concert. I am, to this day, convinced that is the only good reason for getting out of bed early.
There are rumors that we are going to get snow and thunder today. I don't quite now how that works, but it sounds strange. Despite my serious contempt for snow, I am oddly looking forward to this.
So to answer everyone's question of "what are you doing this weekend?" (you know you wanted to ask) I respond as follows: very little. I actually brought myself to clean last weekend. This was not your normal dust and vacuum routine either. Every room. Every surface. Every closet. No. It was not fun. But at least now I don't have to do it again. My scrubbing muscles work best if they have weeks to rest and recuperate.
I attended band practice last night. It was enlightening. We have a couple services coming up in February that I am downright nervous about now. I like the songs (that's never the issue). But there are several older people (Pastor Brian calls them "crusties") that may not appreciate it all quite as much. What does one do? Alienate the crusties and win over younger people. Alienate the younger people and win over the crusties. Frustrating. The latest solution is to simply make the most eclectic service possible. A few hymns on the organ. A few praise songs with blaring guitar solos. And then, just to really confuse people, a few hymns with blaring guitars. I think it is particularly sad that there is so much focus on the style of worship. Who really cares? As long as it is worship, isn't that all that matters? Style is simply a distraction - something the devil decides we need to focus on so we don't actually spend time worshipping - we spend more time discussing worship.
Question of the day: who named a thesaurus as such? Did this person have a particular fascination with dinosaurs?
